As West Virginia’s leading voice and premiere resource for Members of the
West Virginia Grantmakers Association are at the heart of philanthropy. Their
work reaches into issues related to poverty, illiteracy, homelessness, arts
and culture, the environment and much, much more.
This work is challenging and changing. Grantmakers must set priorities, be responsive,
reach smart decisions, meet strategic goals, make an impact, and share what is
learned—all while having an eye to the future.
West Virginia Grantmakers provides the support funders need to better accomplish
their work, and in the process, helps make philanthropy in West Virginia even
more effective. Whether representing a corporate giving program or foundation,
grantmaking public charity, or a community, private, family, or health foundation,
by joining WVGA members are exposed to best practices, trends, resources, and
maybe most importantly, the work of one another.
WVGA provides the opportunity for exchange, discussion, and debate.
Membership in WVGA also helps to build philanthropy's voice in the state. WVGA
serves as an advocate for philanthropy by helping others understand how private
philanthropy works and why it's important to the people of West Virginia. And
WVGA encourages joint projects, communication, and collaboration among our grantmakers,
promoting teamwork to solve problems and achieve the highest levels of effectiveness.
The West Virginia Grantmakers Association is a 501(c)(3) organization serving
foundations and other grantmakers. It does not make grants, nor does it directly
serve nonprofit organizations seeking grants.
